Must Read

Brothers Ganeshdev and Houkesh Kumar Hurbungs, aged 23 and 33 respectively, were arrested late Wednesday afternoon, April 27. The two Montagne-Longue residents are provisionally accused of kidnapping a 12-year-old boy for three days. The two suspects were identified by the boy. The boy was taken to the Montagne-Longue hospital for treatment before being admitted to the North Hospital for observation.

For 3 days, this young boy of 12 years old and student in grade 6 was tied to a chair, tortured, assaulted and deprived of food. This barbaric act was committed by the brothers Ganeshdev and Houkesh Kumar Hurbungs, who live in Montagne-Longue. They are said to be drug addicts. The boy was able to free himself around noon on Wednesday 27 April before fleeing to his home in the same village. Weakened, the child confided in his mother.

Although his disappearance was not reported to the police, his mother, aged 31, was worried sick. She looked for him in the whole village among her relatives and acquaintances. The boy used to go away and then come back.

In his statement made in the presence of his mother in the early evening at the police station of Montagne-Longue, the boy told the story of these three days of ordeal in the hands of the two brothers Hurbungs. It all started around 7pm on Sunday, April 24. This day, he crossed Ganeshdev Hurbungs near a store. The boy was asked to do some odd jobs at the home of one of his kidnappers. It is on a motorcycle that this man took him to his home. After the work was completed, the man lent him a bicycle for a ride around the area.

Later, Ganeshdev Hurbungs was to learn that the miner left with his bicycle to Notre Dame. Furious, he had to go to that place. Once the boy was found, he took him to the home of his brother Houkesh Kumar Hurbungs, before confining him by tying him to a chair in a room.

The boy told the police that he was deprived of food, tortured and assaulted during these three days. He bears traces of injuries on his body. After being taken to the Montagne-Longue hospital by his mother, he was transported to the North hospital by a team of police officers. He was taken to the hospital and placed under observation.

A team of police officers, led by Sergeant Rathooah, arrested Ganeshdev Hurbungs shortly afterwards. His brother Houkesh Kumar Hurbungs was intercepted by members of the public before being handed over to the police. Both men were positively identified by the boy. After spending a night in a police cell, they were brought before the court of Pamplemousses on Thursday morning, April 28. They were subsequently returned to their cells.
