Arvin Boolell: Britam Sale Report Is Nonsense

Must Read

The report of former judge, Bhushan Domah regarding the Commission of Inquiry into the sale of Britam Kenya does not hold water, according to Arvin Boolell. The Labour Party MP held a press conference on Thursday 29 July in Belle Rose.  According to Arvin Boolell, the report on the sale of Britam made public last Tuesday would be full of contradictions. “A nonsense report.”

For Arvin Boolell, it is the MSM government that would be the culprit. He wonders if the police will act transparently now that this report is in their possession.

Arvin Boolell also returned to the subject that is currently making a lot of noise on the Champ de Mars side: the establishment of a Horse Racing Division under the responsibility of the Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA). For the red deputy, this measure sounds the death knell of horse racing in Mauritius.

For Arvin Boolell, “the recommendations of the Parry Report should have been taken into consideration. Among the measures, the Gaming Police must be reviewed in order to prevent criminal acts in the field of horse racing such as illegal betting and money laundering, among others. With this bill, there is a climate of distress and fear”.

Arvin Boolell congratulated Jean-Michel Giraud. Indeed, the latter foresees a legal battle if the Finance Bill is voted as it is presented to the Parliament.

Another subject discussed was the loans granted by the Mauritius Investment Corporation (MIC) to “companies in distress”.

According to Arvin Boolell, the MIC is a scandal because the list of beneficiary companies has not been made public. He asks that all answers be provided in transparency.

The Labor MP also returned to the reopening of the judicial inquiry into the death of Soopramanien Kistnen. “The truth must come out,” he said.
