Former Police Officer Drowns In Pointe Aux Sables

The lifeless body of Ram Barosah, 47, a former police officer, who is now self-employed, was found on the public beach of Débarcadère, Pointe aux Sables at the back of the Perle Bleu villa on Sunday morning, November 20. An autopsy, carried out the same day at the morgue of the Dr A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port Louis, attributed his death to asphyxiation due to drowning.

It was around 10:35am on Sunday 20 November that the Pointe aux Sables police station was alerted to the discovery of a body on the public beach of Débarcadère. An ambulance from the Emergency Medical Service was called to the scene. The doctor on board unfortunately had to pronounce the death of the victim, who was later identified as Ram Barosah, a former police officer living in Morcellement La Confiance, Chébel, Beau-Bassin. The victim was wearing his clothes and a pair of sports shoes.

Dr Maxwell Monvoisin, Principal Police Medical Officer, who conducted the autopsy, attributed the death to asphyxiation due to drowning. Samples were also taken for analysis at the Forensic Science Laboratory in Reduit. According to police information, the victim used to go to the beach on Sundays for a swim.

The funeral of this former member of the police force took place on Monday 21 November at 1pm. He was cremated at the crematorium in Chebel.

A police investigation has been initiated to shed light on the circumstances of this drowning.
