Must Read

Camp de Masque cyclist Louis Parsley Vivian Ecumoir, 52, was killed in a road accident on the night of January 1, 2024. The 50-year-old was hit on his bike by a van on the Route Royale from Camp Garreau to Flacq. A doctor from the Service d’Aide Médicale d’Urgence (Samu) was only able to pronounce him dead on the spot. His body was then taken to the morgue of the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital in Port Louis for an autopsy. The autopsy, carried out by Dr Prem Chamane, Principal Police Medical Officer (PPMO), attributed his death to a fractured skull.

It was shortly before 9pm on Monday evening, January 1, when the accident occurred in Camp Garreau, Flacq. A bicycle and a Toyota van were involved. Shortly afterwards, a team of police officers from the Flacq police station arrived at the scene of the accident.  Sergeant Dowakaparsad and her men found the cyclist lying unconscious on the road with injuries to his body. A Samu ambulance was dispatched to the scene. The doctor on board was only able to pronounce the victim dead.

The 57-year-old driver of the vehicle, who lived in the village of Lavendure, was given a breathalyzer test. This proved negative. He was placed in custody at the Bel Air Rivière Sèche police station. On the morning of Tuesday January 2, he was brought before the Bail and Remand Court in Port Louis.

An investigation has been launched at the Flacq police station to shed light on the exact circumstances of this first fatal accident for 2024.
