Tokyo: Four Mauritian Athletes In The Paralympic Games

Must Read

The Olympic flame of Tokyo will be lit again in a few days for the Paralympic Games which will be held from August 24 to September 5 in the Japanese capital.

A few days before their departure, our four disabled athletes, Noémi Alphonse, Anaïs Angéline, Eddy Cap D’Or and Brandy Perrin are serene and hope that they will mark this edition of their prints.

Precisely, Noémi Alphonse, the flag-bearer of the Mauritian delegation, was the first Mauritian disabled athlete to qualify for the Olympics without a wild card. It was during the Grand-Prix of Notwil (Switzerland) held on May 14, 15 and 16.

The African record holder in 100m and 1500m will be involved in four events, including 100m, 400m, 800m and 1500m.

Before her departure for Tokyo, she told us that her goal is at least to reach the final of the 100m T54. “I have been training very hard and I hope to make the final of the 100m T54. It will not be easy, but I am confident. Especially since the training program established by my coach, Jean Marie Bhaugeerothee has taken into account the several aspects of preparation, “said Noémi Alphonse who adds that her preparation has been somewhat disrupted because of the pandemic Covid-19. But her coach has readjusted the program to optimize her chances.

She concedes that not having been able to train for three months was not a sinecure because for these games, it is necessary to put all the chances on its side.

I was also able to benefit from the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, as well as the financial and logistical support of my Club Magic de Quatre-Bornes, the Horizon Paris 2024 program and my sponsor, ABC Motors. I would like to thank all these people,” she said.

The Mauritian delegation, which includes 11 people, will set sail this Sunday in Tokyo. The Mauritians will have to scrupulously respect the strict sanitary rules.
