A Nissan Navara all-terrain vehicle of navy blue color, worth Rs 1.4 million, was stolen from MEP Engineering Ltd in the early hours of Monday morning, June 27. This vehicle was, thereafter, found on fire at the junction of the Royale and Saint-Joseph road in Terre-Rouge. This 4 x 4, which was under the responsibility of a 39 years old technician, was parked in his yard in Trou aux Biches. This man says he suspects his 20 year old nephew living at the same address to be the author of this theft. The latter, Gregory Emmanuel Tommy Léger, was apprehended in the late afternoon of Monday, June 27, and confessed to have stolen the car.

It was at about 01:55 in the morning of Monday, June 27, that Sergeant Bhunjun of the Terre-Rouge police station went to the junction of Royal and St. Joseph Road, Terre-Rouge regarding the burning of a car. On his arrival, the men of the Mauritius Fire and Rescue Service were already on the scene to contain the fire. The vehicle was then towed to the Terre-Rouge police station.

After viewing the Safe City cameras at this location, it was seen that this 4 x 4 was coming from the direction of St. Joseph Road and that one of its rear wheels was on fire. The driver then abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.

Shortly before 6:00 am on Monday morning, June 27, this technician from Trou aux Biches made a statement of theft at the police station of his village. He reported that the theft was committed between 01:00 and 04:00 the same day. This vehicle was parked in his yard next to his house and was locked. Insured by the Mauritius Union Insurance, this vehicle was completely damaged.

He told the police that he suspects his 20 year old nephew living in the same yard to be the author of this theft.

An operation set up in the late afternoon of Monday, June 27, by police officers from the Criminal Investigation Division of Trou aux Biches and the Field Intelligence Office led to the arrest of Gregory Léger. After spending a night in the Alcatraz detention center in the Central Barracks, he was brought before the court of Pamplemousses this Tuesday morning, June 28.
