Minister Teeluck Chairs Ministerial Committee On Shrawani Maas Pilgrimage

A Ministerial Committee on the forthcoming Shrawani Maas pilgrimage was chaired, this afternoon, by the Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage, Mr Avinash Teeluck, in Port Louis.

The Minister of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change, Mr Kavydass Ramano; the Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Mr Darsanand Balgobin; and the Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Kailesh Jagutpal; and other personalities were also present. Representatives of socio-cultural associations were also in attendance to discuss and share proposals as regards the holding of the festival.

The aim is to ensure that the pilgrimage at Grand Bassin and all related activities across the island, which will be held during the Shrawani Maas, from 14 July to 11 August 2022, takes place in the best possible conditions while respecting sanitary protocols.

Minister Teeluck recalled that the meeting focused on the works and measures taken by the different Ministries and departments with regard to the festival. Government, he reassured, will take into consideration the proposals of various socio-cultural representatives. He also called for a synergy among organisations and authorities for better coordination of activities.

With regards to the requests from socio-cultural groups concerning upgrading and renovation works of religious places, the Minister stated that the Committee will review those projects over time.
