A press release coming from the Chief Commissioner’s Office has been communicated to various partners and the public at large on this 5th of July, to inform that the Chief Commissioner of the Rodrigues Regional Assembly Serge Clair has been transferred to Mauritius this same date for further medical examinations. He travelled by a flight of the ‘Dornier’ which was already scheduled for this date since several days. He travelled the journey accompanied by his wife. Upon his arrival in Mauritius at around 3 pm on Monday 5 July, he will be taken to Jeetoo Hospital.
We had noted that Serge Clair was absent for the Rodrigues Regional Assembly Sitting dated the 30th of June, when the Fishing regulations were voted and that the last meeting of the Executive Council on Friday the 2nd of July was chaired by the Deputy Chief Commissioner Nikolson Lisette, in the absence of Serge Clair. It seems that the latter has not been well for some days already and was thus admitted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital at Creve-Coeur on the 4th of July as he was feeling uneasy. According to the press release, the doctors assert that his state of health is stable. And the public will be kept informed of the evolution of the state of health of Chief Commissioner by his office.
This situation will further fuel the political cauldron that has already been boiling for several weeks. Indeed, according to some rumours, the opposition parties want to join forces to form a common bloc. This block will have to include the PMSD Rodrigues having as President Vincent Perrine, the Union of the People of Rodrigues of Franceau Grandcourt and the party of Johnson Roussety, notably the FPR écologie.
The Rodrigues Movement of Nicolas Von Mally is according to our sources, excluded from this equation.
This reunification of these three political formations of Rodrigues has in view the elections of the Regional Assembly of Rodrigues scheduled next February.
