A police operation mounted by elements of the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (Adsu) of Saint Pierre and those of Quartier Militaire resulted in the uprooting of two thousand five hundred and thirty-six cannabis plants on the side of the Rivière Noire mountain in the afternoon of Thursday 3 August. The market value of these plants is estimated at Rs 7,608,000.
On the basis of certain information, Adsu Saint Pierre, led by Chief Inspector Moosun with the assistance of men from Adsu Quartier Militaire, went to the side of the Black River Mountain at around 1.45pm on Thursday 3 August. After a search, the plants, which measure between five and twenty centimetres, were discovered. Discreet surveillance was carried out at the site, but no one came forward. The plants were then uprooted and taken to Adsu headquarters at the Casernes Centrales.
An investigation has been launched to trace the growers of these plants.
