The intermediate court has sentenced 27-year-old Olivier Donald Legrand to 12 years of imprisonment for rape, sodomy and attempt upon chastity and assault on two women. That night in 2018, the two victims were near their workplace in Flacq when Legrand attacked them. He intimidated them with a knife, stole their money and threatened them stating that he wanted to have sex with them. One of the victims resisted and she was seriously assaulted by Legrand who tore her face with the knife. The other woman did not resist and Legrand raped and sodomized her before making sexual touches on the other lady.
The accused has pleaded guilty and claimed that he had been under the influence of drugs.
He has been arrested by police four days after the attack.
Magistrates Sophie Chui Guness and Ashwina Jalloo insisted that despite the guilty plea of Legrand, a hard punishment was warranted.
