Following the official presentation of the PRB report by the Prime Minister, the head of the Labour Party in Parliament called a press conference this afternoon together with MPs Osman Mahomed and Stéphanie Anquetil. The PRB Report was one of the topics addressed by Arvin Boolell and one of this questions was “Where will the additional Rs 4.8 billion required for the implementation of the report come from?”. He recalled that the Prime Minister stated that the implementation of the PRB report will cost a total of Rs 6.5 billion. The last budget has provided for a budget of Rs 1.7 billion. As a result, Rs 4.8 billion will have to be found.
Arvin Boolell denounced the fact that the PM was not transparent on this aspect. He painted a bleak picture of the economic situation and asked whether this money is being drawn from the Special Reserve Fund.
According to him, a tax hike will be inevitable and the rupee will continue to depreciate.
Answering a question from the press, Arvin Boolell said that an alliance between the Labour Party and the “L’Espoir” Platform cannot be ruled out and added that he does not want to hear any more about the MSM.
