PM Jugnauth Condemns Incidents of Friday Night; Visits Injured Police Officer

Back home after an official mission to India on Sunday, Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth made his very first comments about the high tensions prevailing in many regions across the country on his return from his trip to India. Pravind Jugnauth also met Police Commissioner Anil Kumar Dip to discuss the latest incidents which happened between some protesters and the Police on the night of Friday, April 22.

The incidents that took place on Friday night were planned by politicians,” are the words taken by the Prime Minister. He did not mince his words against some politicians, who he believes, took advantage of the current difficult situation in the country “to make a mess“.

In his statement on the national television channel, Pravind Jugnauth condemned the reprehensible actions of “some politicians“. According to him, these politicians took advantage of a difficult global context to create chaos.

The head of government also made it clear that he gave his full support to the Police to take actions in order to restore order in the country. “I will not tolerate any skidding and the police have my full support.” He also called on the various economic and social actors to play their part for the prosperity of the country.

The Prime Minister also focused on the fact that one of his priorities is to ensure the safety of every citizen. « Mo gouverma li pou toujours agir de ene façon surtout pour les personnes vulnérables,» said the Prime Minister.

PM Jugnauth With Injured Officer Jimmy Baptiste

Pravind Jugnauth was also present at the Subramania Bharati Eye Hospital in Moka to visit the police officer, Jimmy Baptiste, who was injured in the line of duty during the violent protests on the night of Friday 22 April. Point to be noted, 16 other police officers, who were working on the ground, were also injured by the projectiles thrown at them.
