Plumber Killed In Cannabis Case, Two Suspects In Custody

Must Read

An argument over a cannabis case would have gone wrong for Gilbert François Narrainsamy, a 35-year-old plumber. The lifeless body of this resident of Stateland Cité Malherbes, Curepipe, with multiple injuries, was found in a wood in the area of La Vigie late Thursday afternoon, February 17. In the wake of this case, the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of Curepipe has arrested two suspects. They are Jean Antoine Michaël L’Onflé, a 38-year-old homeless man, known as Rasta, and Nicolas Désiré Fidèle. These two men, who claim their innocence, were brought before the court of Curepipe this Friday, February 18, on a provisional charge of murder.

This whole affair started from a statement of missing persons at the police station of Eau-Coulée around 10 am on Thursday, February 17. Mary Julia Boodhoo, 24 years old and resident of Stateland Cité Malherbes, Curepipe, came to report the disappearance of her companion which occurred in the late afternoon of Wednesday, February 16 near Cerasim. Gilbert Narrainsamy, who had left his home, did not return home on the morning of February 17.

A search operation was carried out by elements of the Eau-Coulée police station with the assistance of men from the Field Intelligence Office, the Special Supporting Unit and the police sniffer dog. This exercise was unsuccessful. Gilbert Narrainsamy’s girlfriend was questioned again, after which the Eau-Coulée CID, the Divisional Supporting Unit and the police dog were mobilized to conduct a search in a woodland about 30 meters from the road to La Vigie.

Mary Julia Boodhoo pointed out to police a trail where she and her companion had been intercepted by Michaël L’Onflé and Nicolas Fidèle. The first suspect, she said, inflicted blows to Gilbert Narrainsamy following an argument over cannabis. A search by the police officers made it possible to find a tent in which Michaël L’Onflé had settled. Nicolas Fidèle was apprehended shortly afterwards in Cité Malherbes after this wood was combed and the body of Gilbert Narrainsamy was found under a tree. The CID of Curepipe then took over this investigation since the body was discovered in the division of the police station of Curepipe.

The investigation is oriented on a transaction of cannabis that went wrong. The victim would have gone in this wood to obtain drugs with Michaël L’Onflé. Faced with the refusal of this last one to get this drug to him, an argument would have burst and ended in a blood bath. The autopsy performed by Dr. Ananda Sunnassee, Police Medical Officer, at the morgue of the Victoria Hospital, Candos in the evening of Thursday, February 17, attributed the death of this plumber to a skull fracture. According to a police source, a group of lawyers have come forward to represent one of the two parties in this case.

Gilbert Narrainsamy’s funeral will take place this Saturday morning, February 19th at 11am. The funeral ceremony will take place in the church of Sainte Hélène in Curepipe. He will then be buried in the cemetery of Bigara.
