The number to remember is 15, which is the number of deaths directly linked to Covid 19. In Rodrigues, the figure is 6 deaths since 26 January. The sequencing results for the 49 samples collected from 8 to 27 January show 19 cases of the Delta variant, of which 17 are local and 2 are imported, and 38 cases of the Omicron variant, of which 32 are local, 3 are imported and 3 are from Rodrigues.
Rodrigues has reached 7301 positive cases since the outbreak on 26 January and for this Friday, they record 251 new positive cases. Spotlights are on Mauritius who has crossed the mark of 300 cases per day, with 333 cases reported on this Friday only. There were also 68 admissions, namely 63 to regional hospitals and 5 to New ENT Hospital. The weekly report from the Ministry of Health shows that 1456 new cases have been recorded via PCR tests. There are also 72 positive PCR tests on arrivals at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport. In addition, 76 people are currently under quarantine. For the past week, the regional hospitals have recorded 296 positive patients and at the New ENT Hospital, there are 18 quite serious cases of which 9 are on life support of which 4 are only vaccinated with 2 doses and 9 are on oxygen of which 7 are not vaccinated.
The only positive increase is that of vaccination. To date 996,366 people have been primo vaccinated, 955,175 have received the second dose and 442,389 people have received their third/booster dose. This represents only half of the vaccinated population, which is too low considering that the deadline for the third dose on 19 February has remained unchanged. As for adolescents aged 12 to 17 years, 73,260 have already been inoculated with the first dose of Pfizer vaccine and 59,477 adolescents have received both. In Rodrigues, 72.73% of the population received the first dose, 70.67% the second and 9467 the third/booster dose.
