The Ministry of Health recorded 366 new asymptomatic cases and 5 serious cases admitted to the ENT hospital in Vacoas. In addition, at the same treatment centre, we deplore a victim of Covid and her death has been found in the early afternoon.
She was 91 years old and had been tested positive for the virus. She has been admitted because of her advanced age and several comorbidities. Her death was announced by a press release from the ministry concerned and it has been directly attributed to Covid 19
This brings us to 0.59% of the infected population. 782,113 people have received a first dose and 688,7922 are duly vaccinated. As far as vaccination is concerned, the 38,000 students aged 12 to 17 years will soon be eligible. Mauritius will receive a shipment of 76,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine in the coming week reserved for them.
Scattered cases
There are several scattered cases on Saturday. The MyT Shop in Cascavelle had to be closed to the public. One staff member tested positive. 6 cases were recorded at the Roche Bois Police Station, involving 5 officers and one inmate.
As for the schools, four will not be resuming on Monday 23rd August due to Covid positivity on students and staff. They are Lady Sushil SSS in Triolet, College du St Eprit in Quatre Bornes, Sodnac SSS and Willoughby Government School.
Intriguing new protocols
In addition, with the new protocol, there is a fear for asymptomatic double vaccinees. According to a Ministry of Health circular dated 20th August, they will no longer be eligible for Covid Testing Centres. The only exceptions are the unvaccinated, those over 65 years of age, cases of certified convenience, symptomatic people, symptomatic direct contacts and those on the recommendation of a doctor.
