Must Read

This is what the Ministry of Health said in a statement on Wednesday afternoon about the case of a passenger from Reunion who transited through Mauritius and tested positive for the Omicron variant in Reunion.

The passenger landed in Mauritius on 19 November after travelling from Mozambique where he stayed from 14 to 19 November. He had a stopover in South Africa and then travelled to Mauritius where his PCR test at SSRIA airport was done. He was tested negative and was placed in quarantine in a room according to protocols until his departure on 20 November. The Minister recalls that it was not until the following day that the first symptoms appeared and he tested positive for Covid 19 on his island on 22 November. His sample was sequenced and found to be infected with Omicron.

This press release from the Ministry of Health follows the press release from the Prefect of the Reunion Region, who stated that “As soon as the epidemic resumed in Mauritius, the Prefect of Reunion reinforced the control measures on the arrival of regional flights…“.

Special Patients’ Hotline at ENT

The Ministry of Health has set up a special Hotline at the ENT Hospital in Vacoas, dedicated solely to ‘Responsible Parties’. On 86066, they will be able to get all the details they need about the health care of their relatives. These ‘Responsible Parties’ will have to be designated in advance by the patients being treated. This is a step by the government towards peace of mind for the families, which is welcomed by Eshan Juman, a PTr Member of Parliament, as he had requested at the session Tuesday 30th November that a hotline be set up at the ENT Hospital.
