This Tuesday, October 5, around 2:45 pm, this 62-year-old woman was knocked out by a violent blow to the back of her head after the motorcycle, on which two individuals were riding, stopped at her height. This incident occurred as the victim was returning home from a visit to the Amaury Health Center.  The sixty-year-old tried to resist her attackers but they managed to seize her handbag, which contained her Nokia cell phone, her national identity card, other documents and the sum of Rs 275, among others. The whole is estimated at Rs 2500.

She was badly injured in the face after being thrown to the ground and had to return to the clinic for treatment. In the early morning hours of Monday, October 11, the men of the Field Intelligence Office of the Northern Division, led by Inspector Gunga and Sergeant Arnasala, with the assistance of elements of the National Coast Guard commando, mounted an operation in Bois d’Oiseau, Flacq. This exercise allowed these police officers to arrest Harley Mardi and his accomplice, Juliano Digrace, as well as to seize the Suzuki motorcycle that Harley Mardi was driving that day.

In the wake of this investigation, the owner of the Suzuki was questioned. It was explained that Harley Mardi had taken his motorcycle without his permission. Harley Mardi and Juliano Digrace led the investigators to a bush in Amaury where they had disposed of the victim’s purse. Only a pair of glasses and some documents remained.

During the day of Monday, October 11, the two suspects were brought before the court of Pamplemousses. As the police objected to their release, they were sent to the Central Prison of Beau-Bassin to be detained.
