Murder Of Little Ayaan: Ashaar Soobratee Sentenced To 39 Years In Prison

Must Read

In the Supreme Court on Friday, June 17, Sheikh Mohammed All Ashaar Soobratee, 24 years old, was unanimously convicted by the jury for the murder of his stepson, little Muhammad Ayaan Moeen UdDin G. Ramdoo. The child was two years old. The crime was committed on November 12, 2020 in Midlands. Judge Luchmyparsad Aujayeb delivered his verdict on Friday evening after the jury deliberated and sentenced Ayaan Ramdoo’s stepfather to 39 years in prison. Note that the murderer had pleaded not guilty before the court.

Recall that Ayaan Ramdoo, aged 2 years, was beaten to death by his stepfather, Sheikh Mohammed All Ashaar Soobratee, on November 12, 2020 in Midlands. The latter along with little Ayaan’s mother, Bibi Nawsheen Beeharry, tried on the night of November 12 to get a death certificate for the victim at Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital but the attending doctor had refused.

That’s when the couple turned to a private doctor. Dr. Nesha Soobhug issued a death certificate stating that little Ayaan had died of natural causes. She was later arrested in the case and later released on bail. According to cross-checked information, she told investigators that she had relied on the parents’ statements and the hospital’s chart.

Defended by Me Raouf Gulbul, the suspect pleaded not guilty. During her testimony in court, Dr. Shaila Prasad-Jankee, medical examiner, explained the numerous bruises found on Ayaan’s body during the post-mortem examination. She said she noted that Ayaan had second-degree burns on one finger.
