A 35 year old man, living in Cité Ilois, Baie du Tombeau was seriously injured in an accident that occurred this Tuesday morning in Le Hochet, Terre-Rouge. The motorcycle he was riding was hit head-on by a truck coming from Route Royale, Riche-Terre and was about to turn right towards Abercrombie, St. Croix. The injured man was admitted to the intensive care unit of the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port Louis.
It is at the exit of Le Hochet, Terre-Rouge just before Allée Père Laval, Sainte Croix that this accident occurred around 7:50 am this Tuesday, December 21. This truck, driven by a 58 year old man living in Le Hochet, Terre-Rouge, was driving towards Sainte-Croix. The vehicle had arrived almost in front of the Meuble Domingue building and was about to turn right to head towards Abercrombie, St. Croix when he heard a loud noise in front of his truck. The driver got out and saw a motorcycle on the ground and an injured man in front of the Domingue Furniture building.
An ambulance from the Service d’Aide Médicale d’Urgence (SAMU) was called to the scene and evacuated the injured man to Dr. Jeetoo Hospital. After receiving treatment, the 30-year-old was admitted to the intensive care unit.
Both vehicles were damaged. The driver of the truck was given a breathalyzer test, which was negative.
An investigation has been initiated at the Red Earth Police Station to determine the exact circumstances of this accident.
