Must Read

A visit at the construction site of the A1-M1 bridge at Grand River North West (GRNW) valley was conducted, today, by the Minister of National Infrastructure and Community Development, Mr Mahendranuth Sharma Hurreeram.  The GRNW extradosed bridge will connect the M1 motorway and A1 road.  It is expected that the bridge will be ranked as the most aesthetic structure of Mauritius and play an important role of national landmark in Mauritius.

The bridge, which is expected to be completed by January 2023, will be 330 m in length with a total height of 118.6 m and 24.7 m in width.  It will consist of 24.7 m wide four-lane dual carriageway and 1.9 m wide footpath on both sides. Citizens and tourists will be able to easily access and cross the bridge on foot, admiring the landscape of the valley at a height of more than 90 m from the river bed.

In a statement, Minister Hurreeram said that the Prime Minister expects that construction projects are closely monitored for the smooth execution of works and that is why the present site visit is being held to examine the progress achieved so far.

The Minister said that the sector of construction will become the next driving force of the economy and workers will bring about an economic boom in the future.  Government is investing massively in infrastructure and has invested Rs 11.7 billion for the construction of drains across the country, he pointed out.

In addition, the Minister paid homage to all Mauritian workers who are working on construction sites which are ensuring the development of Mauritius and making the country progress.  We always talk about progress and development and this is made possible by these workers, he said.

Moreover, the Minister indicated that there was a need for expertise and foreign workers on this construction site but due to the pandemic, they could not come, and the contractor gave the opportunity to Mauritian workers to learn and enrolled them to work on the project and this has allowed a process of knowledge-transfer.
