A 27 year old policeman and his uncle, a 56 year old mechanic ended up at the Victoria Hospital, Candos late Wednesday afternoon, October 13, after being assaulted with a knife in La Caverne, Vacoas. The author of this act is none other than the uncle of this policeman and brother of this mechanic. If the latter was able to leave the hospital after receiving treatment, the police officer was admitted to the ward. The suspect, Nadeem Moosun, 50 years old, was arrested in the evening of the same day. This Thursday, October 14, he was brought before the court of Curepipe. He is facing a provisional charge of assault with premeditation.
In his statement given through a police sergeant, the officer assigned to the Passport and Immigration Office (PIO) and living in Forest-Side explained that he was at his uncle’s home at the time of the incidents. It was around 5:30 p.m. At one point, he said he heard his mechanic uncle arguing with another uncle who lives in the same yard.
He said he intervened so that the argument did not degenerate into a fight. His uncle, Nadeem Moosun, was so upset that he left for home and came back with a kitchen knife measuring about 20 centimeters in his right hand. He inflicted his brother with a violent blow to the back, before attacking him with the same weapon to the chest. Injured, the uncle and nephew were taken to Victoria Hospital by relatives.
In the emergency room, the injured uncle received first aid and was allowed to go home. As for the PIO officer, he was admitted to the ward. His condition is considered stable. Nadeem Moosun was arrested by a team from the Vacoas Police Station and the Field Intelligence Office. The suspect was taken back to the police cell at the Vacoas detention center after his court appearance.
