Maha Shivaratri: Avin Jagarnath’s Minimalist Kanwar

Must Read

The simplicity of his kanwar is making Avin Jagarnath a buzz. At 37, this resident of Petit Raffray has built a kanwar in the shape of a backpack.

Two weeks. That’s how long Avin took to build his unusual kanwar: “I always wanted to build a simple and practical kanwar. That’s how I came up with this metal kanwar. Weighing 9 kilos, it also protects me from the sun and rain. Two advantages that facilitate my pilgrimage.”

Well thought out, this kanwar also has a storage box: “I integrated a box into the structure. This allows me to store the sacred water of the Ganga Talao and to accommodate a small towel.”

Moreover, the uniqueness of this kanwar did not fail to catch the eye of the babauds: “From February 5 to February 6, I started the return journey carrying the sacred water from the Grand Basin to the Vishwanath Janata Mandir in Goodlands. I decided to make my pilgrimage well before Maha Shivaratri to avoid the crowds. On the way, several people were pleasantly surprised by my kanwar so much so that many had their picture taken with it.”

Both economical and ecological, Avin’s kanwar is for him a long-term investment: “Its metal structure is solid and the decoration does not require me to inject money again. So I save money and I save the environment.”
