A total of 11 operators have received approval to develop projects in the Data Technology Park. AVA Techno Park Ltd, a subsidiary of Natec Medical Ltd, is the first promoter to accept the terms and conditions of the Letter of Comfort, and is now proceeding with the signature of the lease agreement. Natec Medical Ltd intends to invest more than Rs 550 million in the production of interventional medical equipment.

The Prime Minister (PM), Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, made the announcement, today, at the launch of the Côte d’Or Data Technology Park, organised by Landscope (Mauritius) Ltd, in Ebène. The Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, Dr Renganaden Padayachy, the founder and CEO of Natec Medical Ltd, Mr Vincent Lagarde, as well as other eminent personalities were present at the launching ceremony.

The objective of the Côte d’Or Data Technology Park, according to the PM, is to allow Mauritius to fully integrate the ultra-connected society of the modern world. With the creation of this Data Technology Park, he pointed out, we are laying the foundations for a modern economy based on exchange of date. This, he added, is part of the strategy to position Mauritius as a Smart Hub.

In addition, the Prime Minister highlighted that the Data Technology Park of Côte d’Or will contribute to attract investors looking for attractive possibilities of digital and new technologies. “Even though managing the COVID-19 pandemic is an important challenge in which we are devoting a lot of resources, we also have a duty to build a future that serves the interests of future generations, and the Data Technology Park will play an important role in this endeavour,” he added.

This park, underlined the PM, will pave the way for Industry 4.0 and companies in the field of technical, scientific and innovative activity. The Data Technology Park will also be an important component of the future Côte d’Or Smart and Administrative City. Companies that are expected to establish there will operate in technology, healthcare, artificial intelligence, robotics, cloud computing, and Fintech, among others.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Jugnauth affirmed that, within five years, the park will be able to offer an additional 100 000 m2 of premises and it is estimated that this project will eventually generate some 5 000 jobs in the innovation and technology sector. As more system engineers, mathematicians, scientists and technologists will need to be trained, it will be necessary to call on the research institutes and universities at the forefront of technology to train our young people so as to meet the new demand, he concluded.

For his part, Minister Padayachy underscored that this project is being implemented less than a year after being announced in budget 2020-2021, and therefore enables the next stage of the country’s economic development to be launched. “We are talking here about everything related to the Medical Hub, the Pharmaceutical Hub and technology,” he pointed out. According to the Minister, this park will encourage other investors, both local and foreign, to invest in Mauritius.

As for Mr Lagarde, he stressed that the building that will be constructed will be used to develop new products in interventional cardiology and in the medical field. This project, he said, will provide world-class infrastructure to investors. The first building of the park is expected to be completed in 2023, will cost around Rs 600 million and will create around 500 jobs, said Mr Lagarde.
