Judicial Inquiry Into The Death Of Nooresh Juglall: Shan Ip Audition

Must Read

Four falls of jockeys occurred during the inaugural day of the current racing season, one of which was fatal, that of the Mauritian Nooresh Juglall, last May 15,” confirmed Shan Ip, the head of communication of the Mauritius Turf Club Sports and Leisure before the magistrate, Shavina Jugnauth, who presides over the judicial inquiry into the death of Nooresh Juglall.

Shan Ip went back to the three videos that were shown in court and he identified the falls of Akash Aucharaz on Zigi Zagi Zugi in the third race, Nabil Sheik Batchameah on Supreme Orator in the sixth race and the double fall of Benedict Woodworth on Golden Tractor and Nooresh Juglall on Rule The Night in the seventh race. The Mauritian jockey was seriously injured and was rushed to the City Clinic in Plaine-Verte where he died shortly afterwards.

The communication manager of the Mauritius Turf Club Sports and Leisure was also asked about the jockeys’ equipment.  He explained that this equipment is mandatory and is systematically checked by a “clerk of the course” for each jockey before he is on the track.

Shan Ip’s audition will continue July 6.

Hurchund Vickram, Nooresh Juglall’s brother-in-law and two police officers were also interviewed during this first hearing.

The office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is represented by Mr. Jagganaden Muneesamy, Principal State Counsel, assisted by Mr. Krishan Mahaveer Beeharry and Mr. Anuja Ghoorah, State Counsels. Mauritius Turf Club Sports and Leisure Ltd is represented by Mr. Yahia Nazroo.
