In Bambous: He Hanged His Dog Who Ate His Chickens

Must Read

“Killing animal”, it is under this provisional accusation under section 259 of the criminal code that Jean Love Less Mercure, a 48 years old surface technician and inhabitant of the apartments of NHDC Geoffroy, Bambous, was translated this Tuesday morning of November 15. This suspect, who was arrested in the early evening of Monday, November 14, was kept in a police cell. He is accused of having hung his dog who was waiting for puppies before dumping her body on a vacant lot. The body of the animal was recovered and sent to the veterinary section of the Ministry of Agro-Industry in Reduit for autopsy. The suspect justified the atrocity of his act, “li ti pe manz tou mo poul”.

It was an Animal Control Officer from the Ministry of Agribusiness who brought this case to the attention of the police early in the evening of Monday, November 14. In his complaint, this man, aged 29 and living in Chemin Grenier, explained that he had learned from the director of the Mauritius Society for Animal Welfare (MSAW) that a black and white ordinary breed was hanged in a yard in Bambous. The image of this atrocious scene was shared on Facebook.

Accompanied by his colleagues and police officers, he went to the village of Bambous, more precisely to Block C of the NHDC apartments in Geoffroy.  He was able to locate the yard where the animal was hanged. After the investigation, he went to Jean Love Less Mercure. The latter was quick to confess his guilt in this case. He had to lead these officers to a vacant lot not far from his apartments near the district council of Bambous where the body of the animal was disposed of.

The body of this dog, which was expecting puppies, was recovered and transported to the veterinary section of the Ministry of Agro-Industry for autopsy. This inhabitant of Bambous tried to justify his action because his dog was devouring his chickens. He was engaged in domestic animal husbandry. After spending a first night in a cell at the police station of Bambous, Jean Love Less Mercure was presented before the court of Bambous this Tuesday morning of November 15. As the police objected to his release on parole, he was kept in the cell.
