All is set for the Ramapatee Gujadhur-trained horse Black Cat Back to win his first race this year. He is in a great shape, he has a good draw and he will be ridden by top jockey Rai Joorawon in the main race on Saturday at the Champ-de-mars racecourse.
Black Cat Back last win was in The Barbe Cup (1600m – G1) back in December 2020. He raced four times this year without using his favourite tactics which is to lead trying to win from pillar to post. His last race is to be ignored as he was not striding out.
Black Cat Back showed that he his back to his best during his training sessions. He will be very hard to beat this time as he will break from gate number two. He will be ridden by top Mauritian jockey Rai Joorawon who is a maestro when he rides front runners.
Haylor will be a big runner with apprentice Alvino Roy claiming 3 kg on his back. He is a genuine performer who won three times this season. Haylor will be suited if there is a fight for the lead with the race being run with a hot pace. He will rely on his strong finish to grab his fourth win.
Rule The Night is a very good outsider. He fell heavily during his race on the first meeting with 2020 champion jockey, Nooresh Juglall, being deadly injured. Rule The Night was back to competition after two months and he had two soft races. He is in top form with stunning gallops in the past two weeks. He might be right there if he reproduced what he did in training.
Iditarod Trail stands a chance. He is in good shape and he will try to take full advantage of his lightweight compared to Black Cat Back.
