A situation that causes some reactions, especially in the local turf industry which is already affected by the health crisis and the implementation of the Horse Racing Division as stipulated in the Finance Bill.

Especially since a gambling house will soon be operational in the Champ de Mars. The manager has received all the necessary authorizations to operate his casino and his online betting shop.

The lease agreement between the Mauritius Turf Club (MTC) and the casino operator was signed in September 2020.

Even if the gambling house is to cease operations for the duration of the race day, some experts believe that this gambling house will have a negative impact on the MTC’s business.  According to our information, the MTC’s business figures have decreased since the races are held behind closed doors and bookmakers are not allowed to operate. The arrival of the casino will not help matters.

The decision to lease the casino was not unanimously supported by the MTC Board of Directors. However, the current management has no choice but to respect the terms of the lease agreement.
