In her speech, Mrs Mayotte, highlighted how the CCP has helped China become a reference on the international front and positioned the country as the second most powerful nation globally in the economic and cultural spheres.  China is a strategic partner for Mauritius and exchanges between the peoples of Mauritius and China date back since the 18th century and Sino-Mauritians have contributed to the development of the Republic of Mauritius, she emphasised.  She moreover lauded the Chinese Government for having provided a consequent number of vaccines to Mauritius to fight the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the continuous support of China in the socioeconomic development of Mauritius.

As for the Secretary for Foreign Affairs, he spoke of the various agreements signed between both countries during the past years which span several sectors such as education and training, culture and trade.  These exchanges, he stated, go beyond the signature of agreements between two governments and in fact pertain to the valorisation of people-to-people ties.  He expressed gratitude to the New Chinatown Foundation for having organised such an event which has given a unique opportunity to reflect on the special relations that exist between Mauritius and China.

In his address, Mr Jean Paul Lam remarked that the present event is celebrating the resilience, excellence and symbolism of the CCP which has transformed the People’s Republic of China into the powerhouse it represents today.  He further highlighted the thriving Chinese culture in Mauritius and reassured that his Foundation will continue to work to preserve the Chinese culture across the country as the diversity of Mauritius constitutes its DNA.

The friendship and the mutual political trust between Mauritius and China have continued to flourish since the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries 49 years ago.  Cooperation ties in the fields of economy and trade, culture, tourism, and health have also been reinforced.

Next year will mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Mauritius.  Both countries are keen to work together to expand mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation, and push bilateral friendly relations to a new height.

The CCP was created in 1921. It is the founding and ruling political party of modern China, officially known as the People’s Republic of China.
