Four Suspects, Including Juvenile Arrested For Assault On Police Officer

Must Read

The assault on a police officer in Buisson Ardent, CHA city, Terre-Rouge during the morning of Monday, March 21, led this Wednesday, March 23, to the arrest of four suspects, including a minor of 16 years. The suspects live all over this locality. The 16-year-old was allowed to leave after giving his statement. The 47-year-old officer, who is assigned to the Baie du Tombeau police station, was admitted to the North Hospital and said he saw death in front of him when his attackers tried to drag him into their yard and put him in the track of a dog.

It was following a request concerning an assault on the morning of Monday, March 21, that a team of police officers from the Terre-Rouge police station went to Cité CHA in this locality. One of these police officers was later to go to the bedside of this police officer who had been wounded with a sword and had already been taken to the northern hospital by his colleagues from the Emergency Response Service.

The victim explained that that morning while he was on his way to work on a motorcycle, he was attacked by four people, one of whom is Neeraj Bhageerathy. Following information obtained by the Field Intellingence Office, the men of the Divisional Crime Intelligence Unit (DCIU) arrested Neeraj Bhageerathy during the morning of Wednesday, March 23. Shortly thereafter, the DCIU arrested Ansaar Mohamad Bhageerathy, a 35-year-old peddler, Anavasi Bhageerathy, 35, and a 16-year-old boy.

He and his family members, says the policeman, are constantly harassed by his assailants. They have to cross in front of the Bhageerathy’s house to get to the Royal Road. One of them, he told his colleagues, tried to run him over with his car.

Only the minor was released after his interrogation. Investigators are waiting for a report from the probation office before his case is submitted to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, who will decide how to proceed. Neeraj Bhageerathy and Ansaar Bhageerathy were taken to the Pamplemousses court. They were then taken back to the police cell until Wednesday March 30.

On Thursday, March 24, Anavasi Bhageerathy was brought before the court. As the police objected to his release, he was kept in a cell.
