Demise of Sir Anerood Jugnauth: India Declares State mourning

India declared State mourning for one day on June 4, Friday throughout the country as a mark of respect for the passing away of Sir Anerood Jugnauth, the former president and prime minister of Mauritius. According to a statement by the Home Minstry of India, the Indian national flag would be at half-mast throughout the day and there shall be no official entertainment.

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, expressed his grief on the demise of a great leader who was also awarded India’s second-highest civilian honour, Padma Vibhushan. Calling the former prime minister of Mauritius as the architect of Modern Mauritius and a proud Pravasi Bhartiya, he said that Sir Anerood Jugnauth helped forge special bilateral relationships between India and Mauritius.

The Indian Prime Minister called the current prime minister of Mauritius and the son of the later leader, Mr. Pravind Jugnauth and expressed his heartfelt condolences to him on behalf of the entire nation.

Sir Anerood Jugnauth, the former president and prime minister of Mauritius breathed his last on June 3rd, Thursday.
