A charge of drug trafficking has been lodged against lawyer, Mr. Akil Bissessur and his family. Akil Bissessur and his partner, Doomila Moheeputh, were charged in the Bail and Remand Court (BRC) in Port Louis on Saturday 20 August 2022. The police objected to their release on parole. The risks of absconding and interfering with witnesses were put forward to support this objection. It should be noted that the two suspects deny the allegations of trafficking in synthetic drugs, which weighs against them.
Me. Neelkhant Dulloo, who is representing the interests of Doomila Moheeputh, has made a motion for release on bail. The same motion has been made by Mr. Sanjeev Teeluckdhar. The Grand Bay resident was charged with two offences, namely spreading false news and Breach of Bail conditions. The police have objected to his release on parole and he will be brought before the court again on Monday 22 August 2022.
