An additional 33 stores have been created in the space connecting Phoenix Mall Station to the mall, giving pride of place to local entrepreneurs in line with Ascencia’s B’local initiative. The new mall extension is divided into stores and kiosks, including a Paul’s coffee shop at the entrance to the station, additional food and beverage offerings, fashion and electronic accessories. The GiFi store is now located on the first floor of the mall. In the mall, the public will be able to find a food court that will now be covered with 100 additional seats and Café LUX* that will open on November 15, 2022.

Tassawur Lecordier, Development Manager at Enatt who piloted this project for Ascencia, talks about its particularity. Access to Phoenix Mall has been a challenge in recent years due to several factors. The solution was to be able to connect the mall to public transportation. Hence the collaboration between MEL and Ascencia to make the mall accessible through an additional metro station and bus stop. Both of these infrastructures are directly connected to Phoenix Mall.

“The station itself was designed and built by Metro Express Limited (MEL) and their team of professionals. We, at Ascencia, made the connection from Phoenix Mall Station to the mall. One of the challenges in this project was to connect the metro station to the right place in the mall so that customers and visitors can really experience the mall and the second floor, whether they come by metro, bus or car. In designing the infrastructure, it was critical that customers coming into the mall through entrances other than Phoenix Mall Station be able to experience this extension to the second floor of the mall. In this sense, we have revisited the entrance, near GiFi. This operation was possible thanks to the professionalism of the consultants and the builder. I would like to thank MEL for believing in our project and making it possible”, says Tassawur Lecordier.

Phoenix Mall Station also features a Ticket Office and a Park & Ride facility that allows metro riders to drop off their cars within the mall. This parking area was created in the basement of Phoenix Mall. To further facilitate access to the metro station and the mall, especially for people with disabilities, a ramp has been installed in the second-floor entrance as well as in an elevator to allow them to access the first floor.

Mauritius’ leading retailer, Ascencia is the owner of Bagatelle Mall, Phoenix Mall, Riche Terre Mall, Bo’Valon Mall, So’flo, Kendra and Les Allées.
