Accident In Tamarin: Hervin Mamaode, 28 Years Old Killed On The Spot

A Nissan car, with two brothers on board, was involved in an accident on the road from Black River to Mivoie, Tamarin on the evening of Friday 10 September. One of the two occupants, Jean Hervin Winalay Mamode, 28 years old and living in Eau-Bonne, Bambous was killed on the spot. His brother, Jean Kervin Kersley Mamode, 31, who was driving the car, refused to take a breathalyser test. In addition, a 29-year-old motorcyclist, Yaaser Beekharry, succumbed to his injuries on Saturday 11 September. He was seriously injured in a road accident in La Vigie with another motorbike on Friday 3 September. To date the number of deaths on our roads is seventy-five.

It was around 9pm on Friday 10 September when this terrible accident took place. Kervin Mamode, who came from Black River, was driving towards Tamarin when he lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle rolled over several times before crashing into a wall. The impact of the collision was so violent that the vehicle was seriously damaged. The Maurice Fire and Rescue Service had to intervene to extricate the injured from the vehicle.

The personnel of an ambulance of the Emergency Medical Service who were called to the scene of the accident could only note the death of Hervin Mamode. His body was taken to the Victoria Hospital morgue in Candos for an autopsy.

As for his brother, after receiving treatment at the hospital, he was admitted to the ward.  An investigation has been initiated by the Black River police to shed light on the exact circumstances of this accident.

Yaaser Beekharry, who lived in Les Guibies, Pailles, was seriously injured on the evening of Friday 3 September on the road to La Vigie. His motorbike was involved in an accident with another two-wheeler driven by a resident of Beau-Bassin. Yaaser Beekharry was admitted to the Jawaharlall Nehru Hospital in Rose-Belle. He succumbed to his injuries at around 6am on Saturday 11 September.
