A Prisoner On The Run Surrenders To The Police

Must Read

Jean Patrice Collard, 24 years old and resident of the EDC, Olivia, turned himself in at the Flacq police station this morning, Thursday, September 23, at 10:00 am, after having been on the run for twenty-one hours. This man arrested for drug trafficking after being found in possession of a certain quantity of heroin and assault on a police officer was in detention at the prison of Grande Rivière Nord-Ouest (GRNO). Before he was taken back into custody, he asked to go to the bathroom inside the court, at which point he pushed one of the two police officers who was escorting him before fleeing.

After his appearance in court in Flacq, Patrice Collard was taken in charge by the same team of three police officers from the Prosecutors’ Office who had brought him back from the GRNO prison for his appearance in court. It was around 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, September 22, and before the police vehicle drove off, the detainee asked to be taken to the bathroom. A policeman was in front of the door of the toilet and another policeman outside. Suddenly, Patrice Collard came out of the bathroom and pushed the policeman with both hands before taking his legs to his neck.

This policeman only had time to shout, “eh li pe b…”, that the detainee crossed like a flash in front of the other policeman. The latter tried to chase him behind the toilets, but the detainee had to cross a metal fence before running in the direction of the cab rank and merging into the crowd.

Immediately the police machinery was set in motion to capture the fugitive. Several police units were mobilized to find him.
