A Moped Driver In Sainte-Croix Killed In An Accident

Christian Jose Pedaloo, a 57-year-old security guard and resident of Residence La Cure was killed in a road accident in Lecornu, St. Croix, on the evening of Friday, December 10. The fifty-year-old was driving a moped when his two-wheeled machine of the MBK brand was hit head-on by a car of the Honda Vezel brand.  This one which was driving in the direction of the bus station of Residence La Cure, was driven by the manager of a 42 years old restaurant residing in Raffray, Le Hochet, Terre-Rouge. The forty year old was given an alcohol test which was positive. He had forty-two micrograms of alcohol in his breath.

The sound of the siren of an ambulance of the Emergency Medical Service (Samu) aroused the curiosity of the local residents. Immediately afterwards, a police vehicle joined the ambulance. It was around 10:30 pm on Friday, December 10. These two vehicles went to the place of the accident near the Valéran store.

A person was lying on the road near a moped. A blue colored car seriously damaged in the front facing the bus station of Residence La Cure, was unoccupied. The Samu personnel took care of the injured moped driver, before he was transported to the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis. The 50-year-old was unfortunately to succumb to his injuries half an hour later.

In the meantime, the driver of the car involved in this fatal accident was taken to the Abercrombie Police Station in St. Croix. He was given a breathalyzer test by elements of the Emergency Response Service. The restaurant manager tested positive with forty-two micrograms of alcohol in his breath. He was taken into custody at the Plaine-Verte police station.

As for the body of the victim, it was transferred to the Jeetoo Hospital morgue for an autopsy on Saturday morning, December 11. The autopsy, performed by Dr. Maxwell Monvoisin, Principal Police Medical Officer, attributed his death to multiple injuries.

The driver was brought before the Port-Louis court this Saturday morning, December 11. He is facing a provisional charge of manslaughter. The police did not object to his release on bail.
