About thirty people who were in a snack bar on Desforges Street, Port-Louis, near the Paris Bridge, violently attacked a Special Supporting Unit (SSU) police officer who had gone there to buy food in the early hours of Saturday morning, December 11. It all started with this comment, “sa ler la gard gagn faim”, when the 27 year old policeman turned around to identify the one who made this remark, these offended people had to throw him, “proprieter snack pa mett mask to pa trouve, pran li contravensyon…”.
It was 1:05 am, this Saturday morning of December 11. This police officer living in Quatre-Bornes was returning from a patrol with two of his colleagues in the north of the country. Having a stomach ache, he asked the driver of the vehicle to stop at Desforges Street. After placing his order in a snack bar, he waited like the other customers present. A voice had to say, “sa ler la gard faim”. He then turned around to identify the person. To which these customers were to become hostile and told him, “proprieter snack pa mett mask to pa trouve, pran li contravensyon…”.
The officer then took out his cell phone to call his two colleagues. These people then started to threaten and push him in the direction of Desforges Street. One of the two officers came to meet him as this group of people started to beat him up. He injured his hands when he fell. The buttons on the left pocket of his shirt were torn off and the shirt was ripped. One of the assailants took his cell phone away.
One of the windows of this vehicle was damaged as they rushed into the vehicle to flee. The injured SSU police officer went to the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis for treatment.
An investigation was initiated on this aggression at the police station of Plaine-Verte.
