Victim Of Domestic Violence, A Zimbabwean Woman Does Not Want To Return To The Marital Home

Must Read

A 29-year-old Zimbabwean woman has cancelled her return to South Africa where she lives with her husband. She arrived in Mauritius on Monday 8 November and was supposed to return to South Africa on Thursday 11 November. But she decided not to return with her four-year-old daughter, because her husband made threats against them.

The woman, who is currently staying in a hotel in Haute Rive, Rivière du Rempart, gave a statement on Wednesday afternoon, November 10, at the police station in Rivière du Rempart, explaining the reasons for her decision. In the many details she pointed out that following an argument with her husband, she left the marital roof on Monday, November 8 to come to Mauritius. She said she left South Africa with her daughter without her husband’s knowledge.

This Thursday morning, November 11, she was supposed to fly to Johannesburg, but she refused to go because she holds a Protection Order. She added that before coming to Mauritius, she filed a complaint of domestic violence against her husband. He threatened to attack them.

For her safety, she expressed the wish to be able to stay in Mauritius, especially since she filed a complaint of domestic violence against her husband in South Africa.  She said that she filed the complaint as a Precautionary Measure.
