Under the threat of a sword and a cutter placed on his neck, a 52 year old jeweler was forced to let two individuals wearing balaclavas under their helmets to seize jewels and a sum of Rs 50,000 in his jewelry store, located on the Royal Road in Pamplemousses. The loot taken by these two thugs who left on a motorcycle is estimated at Rs 1 311 400.
It was around 10 am this Wednesday, March 23, when two individuals wearing balaclavas under their helmets burst into this jewelry store. Under the threat of a sword and a cutter placed on his neck, the jeweler who lives in Congomah was forced to hand over all his jewelry. Tetanized, the fifty-year-old watched helplessly as the two men robbed his jewelry store. They took all the jewels which were on shelves in a shop window, before ordering him to open a safe. The safe contained a sum of Rs 50,000 and several pieces of jewelry.
They then got on a motorcycle and fled. They took thirty-two gold chains, twenty-five silver bracelets, twenty gold rings and twelve gold bracelets. A team of police officers from the Pamplemousses police station and the Criminal Investigation Division were immediately alerted and went to the scene. The Divisional Response Plan was put in place. A radio message was sent to all police stations and units on patrol to set up roadblocks in order to apprehend these two men.
Safe City surveillance cameras were reviewed. A grey motorcycle was seen coming from the highway and driving towards the Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB) in Pamplemousses. In other pictures, this motorcycle was spotted on the Royal Road in Pamplemousses, at a junction near the MCB. It was traveling in the direction of Mount.
The Pamplemousses CID led by Inspector Ramburrun is working with the Field Intelligence Office of the Northern Division to track down the two perpetrators of this armed robbery.
