The Labour MP has joined the panel of lawyers representing Bruneau Laurette. Shakeel Mohamed was allowed to see the social activist, and discussed with ASP Ashik Jagai, the head of the Special Striking Team. Shakeel Mohamed told the press that the drugs, firearms, and cartridges seized were not found in Bruneau Laurette’s presence. « My client told me that his car was parked outside and that everyone could have had access to it. He also said that he was outside with the policemen when he was informed that the firearms have been found under his mattress. Bruneau Laurette said that these do not belong to him », explained Shakeel Mohamed. He added that some elements in this case are troubling. According to the barrister, Bruneau Laurette is in shock. It is to be noted that Bruneau Laurette and his son were arrested on Friday after police found drugs, two firearms and some cartridges in his house.

The head of the Police Press Office spoke to the press yesterday afternoon. He explained that the Special Striking Team went to Bruneau Laurette’s home in St Pierre on Friday with a search warrant. He explained that the activist and another person, who was present, have been arrested. He said that the officers of the Scene of Crime Office will take samples of the seized drugs and objects before weighing them. Inspector Coothen also appeals to the public to trust the police.
