Must Read

The cross-examination of the defeated candidate of the Alliance Nationale in constituency number 8 by barrister Raouf Gulbul was due to continue this morning before Justice David Chan and Justice Karuna Devi Gunesh-Balaghee in the Supreme Court. However, when the case was called, Suren Dayal’s lawyer, Robin Ramburn, informed the court that his client is unwell and has been given two days’ rest under medical advice.

The case has therefore been adjourned to next Monday. Raouf Gulbul represents the MBC which is one of the correspondents in this case.

It should be noted that the former number 2 of Government, Ivan Collendavelloo, was present in the courtroom this Thursday. Ivan Collendavelloo was called as witness by the three elected members constituency number 8 in this case.

The cross-examination of Suren Dayal by Raouf Gulbul started on Wednesday, after the same exercise was done by Ravind Chetty. Suren Dayal deplored the fact that the MBC report extensively Pravind Jugnauth’s promise to increase the old-age pension in all its news editions on 1st October 2019.

He also denounced the biased and unfair way of operating of the MBC, which favors government. Suren Dayal also said that the fact that the MBC’s managing director is a political nominee does not help matters. To which Mr Raouf Gulbul reminded that under a Labour regime too, the Prime Minister appointed the MBC’s director general. Suren Dayal said he agreed with this observation.
