SC Results: A Quantitative And Qualitative Increase

Must Read

The latest SC results, made public last week, continue to provoke reactions from all sides.  Several secondary schools are showing some satisfaction and for good reason.

According to the ministry, out of the 18,000 students who took the exams, 48% obtained the 5 credits required to be admitted to Grade 12. The ministry was keen to point out that last year, this figure was 30%.

However, several specialists in the field have noticed certain anomalies, such as several hundred students who obtained excellent results (A) in the English Oral exam, even though the subject was not on the exam.

But what matters is that the students passed their exams, as Bashir Taleb, the President of the managers of the private colleges, explains.  These institutions that feared that with the new criteria imposed by the Ministry of Education, they would not have enough students for the Grade 12.

“We are very pleased with the results obtained by our students and all those who passed their SC exams in general.  For, there has been a quantitative and qualitative increase. Now we just need to know how to maintain the level,” he said.

The pedagogue concedes, however, that the oral remains a mystery. “I don’t understand, or it has been badly explained, that Cambridge already has the Oral on its system and that it can’t be taken away. Personally, I am not very convinced by these explanations.

On our side, we are extremely satisfied with the results especially since we have had a fairly serious decrease in students in our schools.”

The question now is: Should we be gloating about this year or will the following year mark a return to square one?

“We also know that Cambridge has made it known on its website that the “marks” have been revised downward, even for Great Britain. And as I mentioned, there has been a quantitative but also a qualitative increase. I hope that we will be able to maintain the level in the years to come”, added Bashir Taleb.

Note that students who have not obtained the 5 necessary credits and who cannot repeat, will be directed to the technical field, as recommended by the Ministry of Education.
