Rs 3 Million Worth Of Heroin Seized From Sheet Metal Worker

A police raid carried out at the home of Vinesh Purusram. A 43 year old sheet metal worker at Naz Avenue, Quatre Bornes, on Sunday afternoon of June 5, led to the discovery of 206.5 grams of heroin and the sum of Rs 26,775 suspected to be from the sale of this drug. The value of the seized drugs is Rs 3 097 500. The suspect was brought before the court of Rose-Hill this Monday morning of June 6. He answers a provisional charge of drug trafficking. He was then taken back to the police cell.

It was around 5:20 pm on Sunday, June 5 that a team of the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (Adsu) of the Western Division, led by Sergeant Mohun, arrived at the home of this worker. This after having obtained information that this forty-year-old was engaged in drug trafficking. This information turned out to be true. Indeed, during a search, these policemen found a canvas bag. A package wrapped with tape containing heroin. An electronic scale with traces of heroin and the sum of Rs 26,775 suspected to be from the sale of this drug were seized.

Vinesh Purusram was taken to the Adsu office in Rose-Hill for questioning. He was later detained in a cell at Pope Hennessy Police Station in Port Louis on the orders of Assistant Superintendent of Police Ashik Jagai.
