Freddy passed its closest point about 240 km north-northwest of Rodrigues during the night. Around 4 am, the very intense tropical cyclone Freddy was centered in latitude 18.0 degrees south and longitude 60.8 degrees east, about 330 km northwest of Rodrigues. It is moving away to the west southwest at about 28 km/h. Thus, the risk of cyclonic conditions no longer exists in Rodrigues.
However, a safety bulletin is issued valid until 1000 hours. According to our friend Laval Plaiche, no damage to report. In fact the cyclone did not bring the much needed rain for Rodrigues. Here is a video made by Laval Plaiche.
The Education Commission deems it preferable not to open the school institutions of the island today Monday February 20, 2023 for security reasons and to allow a general assessment before the return of students.
Parents are asked not to send their children to school or college even if the hurricane warnings are lifted.
Headmasters and non-teaching staff must go to work in their respective institutions when the warnings are lifted.
