Rodrigues: Several Cases Of Food Poisoning Reported

Must Read

Over 40 cases of food poisoning were reported on the 11th of June in Rodrigues. It seems that on this very date, several clients had bought food from a snack at Baie Lascars. Afterwards, many of them reported to Queen Elizabeth Hospital as they fell sick with vomiting and diarrhea and stomachache. Some of them were admitted, after the doctor diagnosed food poisoning. The food that they had bought contained homemade mayonnaise. And it seems that the mayonnaise could have contained salmonella, which explains why they all fell sick. Early this week, some of them were still in hospital. The local health authorities have summoned the owner of the snack not to sell homemade mayonnaise to his customers anymore. One of them states that it is not the first time he gets sick with similar symptoms after having eaten food from this same snack. The health services should monitor this issue very closely, since some years back in Mauritius, there were death cases in similar circumstances, after some people had eaten food containing mayonnaise in which salmonella was detected. To note that salmonella is a bacterium commonly found in eggs and is potentially extremely dangerous. It can even cause death.
