Recovering From COVID-19: PM’s Statement At 76th Session Of UN General Assembly

Must Read

Building resilience through hope, recovering from COVID-19, rebuilding sustainably, responding to the need of the planet, respecting the rights of people, and revitalising the UN cover the whole range of activities to ensure long term continued existence on the planet, in a manner that enhances multilateralism and cooperation, protects the rights of people by reinforcing institutions and the Rule of Law, and leaves no one behind.

This was at the fore of the message of the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, at the 76th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 76) which opened on 14 September 2021 in New York.

UNGA 76 provides the opportunity for the world to come together to address the most pressing global challenges of today.

In his message, the Prime Minister highlighted that the COVID-19 pandemic caught a totally unprepared world with unparalleled intensity, disrupting governments and societies, the multilateral system, and the lives and livelihood of people.

Prime Minister Jugnauth welcomed the US initiatives to organise the summit to come up with ways to eradicating the pandemic while adding that the meeting bringing together World Leaders, economic partners, vaccines producers and the scientific community can lead to concerted actions to fight the pandemic.

He called for the production of more vaccines, and decentralisation of their production to cater for the needs of people around the globe.
