A ceremony was held, yesterday, in the context of Mother’s Day celebrations, in the presence of the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, and Lady Sarojini Jugnauth, at the Diamond Hall in La Rosa.
The event was organised by the Association L’Unité Nouvelle France in collaboration with the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON).
In his address, President Roopun commended the patience and dedication of mothers in one’s life adding that they have a key role in safeguarding the rights of children and providing them with love and care. Mothers, he stressed, are key pillars of every family and play a vital role in supporting children’s development as well as transmitting strong values and principles.
He further dwelt on the substantial contribution that women have in the socio-economic development and in the society through their role of housewives and mothers. He also spoke of all the measures and facilities that have been put in place to promote women empowerment.
Moreover, President Roopun called on the youth to respect the women in their surroundings and to treat elders with due respect and dignity.
For her part, Lady Sarojini underlined the pivotal role of mothers in the family and the society while highlighting that women are also contributing significantly in various economic fields. Speaking on the prevalence of non-communicable diseases, she observed that mothers have an important responsibility in encouraging a healthy diet and lifestyle for their children.
