Parliament : More Power To The Beach Authority

Beach Authority officers will be able to fine offenders in the same way as police officers.

In addition, a permit from the Beach Authority will be required to conduct business on a public beach and trading on a public beach without a permit will soon be prohibited.

These are some of the measures that are included in the Beach Authority Amendment Bill that will be presented in first reading in Parliament this Tuesday, April 12.

According to the authorities, this bill aims to enable the Beach Authority to better equip itself to meet the challenges faced by the beaches of Mauritius, Rodrigues, but also all the islands that make up the Republic of Mauritius.

Also, the Beach Authority will have to carry out projects to conserve and protect the environment of the public beaches, undertake beautification works on the beaches, organize recreational activities on the public beaches, improve the quality of the water and restore the fauna and flora among others.
