Parcel Of Rs 786,000 Worth Of Cocaine Seized At The Post Office

The Customs Anti-Narcotics Section (CANS) of the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) intercepted a parcel at the Parcel Post Office in Port-Louis on Wednesday 20 April. This envelope containing a silver and glazed plastic bag arrived from Paris on Air Mauritius flight MK 015. In this envelope, there was a transparent plastic, which contained a certain amount of substance suspected to be drugs, which turned out to be 52.4 grams of cocaine, whose market value is Rs 786 000.

The recipient of this package is a Mahébourgeois. Subsequently, this case was handed over to the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) for investigation. After the discovery of this drug, the sniffer dog Oscar of CANS was solicited, and reacted positively to the presence of this drug. The substance was examined and found to be cocaine. The exhibit was secured and forwarded to ADSU for further investigation.

5 kilos of cannabis worth Rs 50 million seized

This Thursday, a doctor was arrested following the seizure of 5 kgs of cannabis, worth an estimated Rs 50 million. The medical practitioner is a Chinese national. He was arrested by ADSU when he came on the spot to pick up the package. The investigation is still ongoing.
