Luxury hotels are opening up to Mauritians again, with online offers usually available only during the dry season (Winter). Some of them are offering up to 50% discounts on prices.
Mauritian luxury brand hotels are adapting to the new normal. Mauritius, categorized as a “Scarlet Red” threat at the beginning of December, harmed the island’s reputation. End-of-year reservations being made in advance, many were able to find means to postpone and maintain their clients’ flights for December 2021 and January 2022.
A strong indicator of the hotel industry’s health is how their marketing and sales teams are currently behaving online.
During the high season, as it is well-known, large groups usually focus their resources on attracting foreign visitors and rarely promote themselves inland.
December 2021 is different. Five-star hotels like Salt of Palmar and Lux Belle-Mare offer up to 60% off on half-board.
The scarlet red listing has had an impact for sure. According to a business owner in the industry, hotels are worried about January. “Normally, big hotels have medium-high reservation rates up to February and March at this time of the year. The best way to compensate for the lack of visibility is to open doors to local newlyweds and young families willing to spend their money on leisure”, he told us.
With the U.S. Centers for Disease Controls (CDC) level 4 listing advising American citizens not to travel to Mauritius, the hotel industry holds its breath all over again.
