Horse Racing – Meeting 12: Tough Task For Alramz

Must Read

Winner on his last outing, Alramz will carry the top weight of 61 kg on a shorter trip of 990m in The Lightning Cup next Saturday at the Champ-de-mars racecourse matching with some good sprinters and strong finishers.

Alramz can be crowned ‘King of the Sprinters’ in Mauritius this season.  He is the favourite of the only Group 2 race which is run over 990m. The Ricky Maingard’s trained horse has vastly improved on his second run on the 3rd of July when he raced near the leader and found that extra burst at the finish to win easily. “The jockey battled with him during The Duchess Of York Cup. He was instructed not to do so, and to let him run freely. I am happy and relieved that it worked out well”, said Ricky Maingard after Alramz’s first win. Being very keen at the start and having a good finish have probably motivated the trainer to target next Saturday’s big race. The horse is in good shape and has a plum draw. Everything is in his favour, except the fact that he will carry the top-weight of 61 Kg.

Marauding is another horse who will take his chance for the first time over such a short trip. He is the record holder over 1450m and has not won since the beginning of the season. He is speedy at the start, and he is the best finisher of the field. The race will be run with a fast pass, and this will suit the horse trained by Ramapatee Gujadhur.

Rob Roy and Virtue ran second and third in that race last year. They are two very good sprinters. Rob Roy will carry only 53.5 kg, but he will start from the worst number at the gates. He is the fastest horse, and he will be very hard to beat if he ever hits the front easily. Virtue is capable of the best or the worst. He can also make the frame if he is on a good day.

Kamadeva will be a decent outsider. He won over this trip at the beginning of the season, and his bottom weight will help him a lot.
